SessionLinkPRO Setup: Complex Logic Pro Audio Routing for Seamless Remote Voice-Over Monitoring

  • by

Explore how I set up complex Logic Pro audio routing for a client’s studio to seamlessly integrate Session Link Pro for remote voice-over monitoring and clear talkback.

The Challenge

Our client, who runs a professional recording studio, faced a new technical requirement for an upcoming voice-over session. A production company needed to remotely monitor the recording in real-time, specifically requesting the use of SessionLinkPRO. While the client’s studio was already equipped for remote sessions using Source-Connect, integrating a new browser-based solution like Session Link Pro into their complex Logic Pro setup required immediate, precise configuration to ensure a smooth session and professional delivery.

The core challenge was to establish robust two-way audio routing: allowing the production company to hear the voice-over artist live from the studio, allowing the client to hear the production company, and enabling clear talkback between the control room and the vocal booth, all while incorporating Session Link Pro’s browser-based audio I/O. A critical secondary concern was confirming the studio’s internet stability, as the client had recently changed providers.

The Solution

After the client reached out by email, we quickly arranged a remote support session for later the same day. I connected with the client via a phone call and used AnyDesk for the remote connection, allowing me to get to work on the Session Link Pro configuration immediately.

Understanding Session Link Pro

First, I researched Session Link Pro’s mechanics, confirming that the production company (Host) would send the client a custom web link to a browser-based interface where inputs and outputs could be configured.

Aggregate Device Confirmation

Using macOS Audio MIDI Setup, I confirmed the client’s existing Aggregate Audio Device (combining their UAD Apollo X interface and Soundflower) was correctly set up and working fine.

Custom Logic Pro Template Creation

Within Logic Pro, I helped the client build a new, tailored session template to manage all audio streams:

  • Voice-Over Feed to Production Company: We set up a dedicated audio track for the voice-over artist, with a bus send routed to Soundflower outputs (specifically 65 & 66 in the aggregate device), making sure the live vocal feed reached the production company via Session Link Pro.
  • Production Company Monitoring for the Client: We created a new input-monitoring-only audio track, receiving audio from Soundflower inputs (59 & 60 in the aggregate device), allowing the client to clearly hear the remote production team in their studio.
  • Talkback Integration: We set up a separate input-monitoring track for the control room microphone. This signal was then bus-sent to both the production company (via Session Link Pro) and directly to the voice-over artist’s headphones in the vocal booth, allowing seamless two-way communication.
  • Artist Monitoring of Production Company: An additional bus send allowed the production company’s incoming audio to be routed to the voice-over artist’s headphones, ensuring they could hear instructions clearly.

Internet Performance Check

Knowing how important a stable connection is for remote sessions, I guided the client to use Speedtest.net to verify their new ISP’s performance. The results of 66 Mbps download and 19 Mbps upload were confirmed to be more than adequate for the audio streaming needed for Session Link Pro.

Client Confidence Building

I made sure the client was completely comfortable with the new setup, walking them through the signal flow and confirming they understood the custom template.

The Outcome

The client now possesses a robust, pre-configured Logic Pro template ready for any future Session Link Pro sessions. They gained real confidence in their studio’s ability to handle this new remote monitoring software, taking away pre-session stress and ensuring a professional experience for their client. The verified internet speeds further solidified their peace of mind, allowing them to focus entirely on capturing the voice-over performance without technical worries.
