Kontakt Patches Resetting in Sonar Professional

  • by

Hi Paul, I have a problem where every time I start my song in Sonar Pro I have to re-select the patch in certain Kontakt instruments. Very annoying! Can you help?

I received the above message from a client and we arranged a time to connect for a remote support session the next day. Once we were connected via AnyDesk and speaking via WhatsApp, this problem didn’t take long to solve.

We opened Sonar’s preferences and found the option ‘Zero Controllers When Play Stops’ was ticked.

Although Kontakt instruments shouldn’t be affected by this option, this particular instrument was interpreting the Zero Controllers message as a patch change message. Unticking this option in the preferences solved the problem.

I explained to my client that this was a per-project setting, so he would need to make the change in all his other existing projects.

To avoid the problem appearing in new, I disabled the option in his New Project Template.

We used the rest of the hour’s support session to tidy up some of my client’s Kontakt library files and move them from his Downloads folder to his hard disk dedicated to sample libraries.
