Moving Sample Libraries to Improve Logic Pro Loading Speeds

  • by
Improving Kontakt Loading Speed

Last week, I connected with a client to help work out why he was experiencing problems with slow loading Kontakt instruments.

During that session, I diagnosed that the slow transfer rates of certain SSD drives in his system were the cause of the issue. I showed my client an Amazon link to the right type of drive he needed to buy and we arranged to reconnect once the new drive arrived.

This week we reconnected and I helped my client with the next stage of the process. We spent the time in our remote support session:

  • Connected the new SSD to the Mac
  • Ran Disk Utility and formatted to APFS
  • Copied sample library files from current SSD to new
  • Used Native Access to set the new library locations for Native Instruments products
  • Used Spitfire Audio App to set the library locations for Spitfire products
  • Used Toontrack Product Manager to set the library locations for Superior Drummer 3
  • Tested the new library locations were working by opening instruments in Logic Pro
Native Access Library

During the testing process, I also found an error with the Evolve Mutations 2 library. I had actually encountered and solved this error before for another client:

After final testing, we were pleased to confirm that all of my client’s Logic projects now opened about 10 times quicker than before.
