FL Studio Project missing samples imported from Splice – Solved

  • by

Connected remotely with a client to help him with issues related to using Splice samples in FL Studio.

He was running FL Studio as his DAW and using Splice as a library to find loops and samples. The Splice Bridge VST plugin was connecting the audio output of Splice into FL Studio. Once my client found a sound he liked in Splice he dragged the samples into a new track on the FL Studio Sequencer.

The problem was that although the process worked initially once my client closed and opened the FL Studio project the samples imported from Splice were missing or assigned to the wrong track.

My client couldn’t figure out what was happening, so booked me to have a look at it.

I had not encountered this issue before, but my first guess was that it would be something to do with how the Splice files were being saved. I checked the properties of the imported Splice files and looked for the file locations. Furthermore, I could see they were being saved inside temporary folders created within Splice’s AppData folder. This was almost certainly the problem.

I looked through some info online about how FL Studio handles the saving of files used in its projects and found a section of the preferences that we needed to change.

Inside FL Studio Settings / Project, I changed the Data Folder setting to ‘Store data relative to the current project file’.

This meant that when FL Studio imported a sample from Splice it was creating a new sample file inside a folder next to the project file.

We tested a few new projects and confirmed that Splice and FL Studio were working smoothly.
